Case History- Elizabeth Cardone
“Tiny Bubbles” was seized through a search warrant by LAPS humane agents on 10-18-07. Many months had been spent trying to get her owner to provide food and veterinary care. Tiny Bubbles was a Welsh pony originally belong to Mrs. Dupont from the famous Liseter Farm in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
At the time she was seized TB had a body score of 1 and had a large mass on her right jaw. An extremely foul smelling discharge continually ran from her mouth. She was examined by vets from New Bolton Center and was eventually brought to New Bolton for care. The vets found her severely underweight, only 335 lbs.. She had melanoma masses near her tail which were infected by fly larvae (maggots). Her blood work was not normal. Her teeth were checked and were found to be in horrific condition with a severe case of wave mouth. A very heavy parasite load only added to her inability to gain weight. The mass on her jaw was severely reducing her airway and was continually traumatized when she tried to chew food. Neglected dental care was causing her sharp teeth to dig into her cheek and gums and was causing the foul discharge.
Due to all of these conditions the vets at New Bolton felt that the little mare’s quality of life was so poor that she should be humanely euthanized.
Cruelty charges were filed against Mrs . Cardone for failure to provide food and veterinary care for her pony. Mrs. Cardone was found guilty of 4 charges by District Justice Walter Strohl. She appealed the charges and the case was brought before the Court of Common Pleas. There she was found guilty of 1 charge of animal cruelty.
